Highly recommend using Select Italy for ticket purchases. This process far exceeded my expectations and no lines. We just went right in when folks were in line for hours at the museum. And, when we had flight delays and could not make a reservation, I called the number provided and they very kindly rescheduled it and faxed the new reservation to the hotel and it was there before we got there. Hats off to Select Italy for providing such a great service.
This is so peaceful after the crowds in city centre. The frescos were so beautiful. We were surprised how few people knew about San Marco.
We really enjoyed the monastery. When we got to Rome I was glad that I had seen the frescos since Michealangelo went to Florence specifically to learn the technique. The monastery was so peaceful. I had not expected to see the illustrated manuscripts on display along with the materials that were used by the monks in the library. I also did not realize that several monks had been extremely good artists.
All of our museum reservation in Florence and Venice were taken immediately and without question. And once we had had one good experience, we had no worry about getting in and having enough time to see everything and were able to really enjoy.
Neither my sister or I were impressed with this museum per se. There were probably a few other places I'd see instead. I'd say the San Marco would be for a particular type of art patron.
